Is there an application fee for the parent/guardian portal?

The application fee is payable only in the Parent/Guardian Portal ONLY. Parents will be notified by email to create a login and password. They can then make payments and submit their electronic signature (and submit optional financial aid information). I submitted an application last year, can I use my same login ID?

Can an out of State student apply to Cosmos?

Students who are not residents of California may apply, COSMOS can admit up to 20 out-of-state students each summer. Please contact the Statewide COSMOS office with questions about student residency status for application purposes.

Who is eligible to attend Cosmos 2022?

Only students that physically reside in the United States during the 2022 activities are eligible to attend COSMOS 2022. Students must further be able to receive packages to their US residence prior to the start of the program. These are requirements for all students regardless of their CA residency status for in-state tuition.

Is it hard to get into COSMOS?

The average student has a GPA of 3.5 or above, making it a selective process for applications. Since it is so competitive, students can only join the program one time. Learn subjects such as computer science, ecology, marine science, and materials science through COSMOS nurturing programs.

Can you attend COSMOS twice?

Due to the high demand for participation in COSMOS, students who have already attended any COSMOS program are NOT eligible to apply again.

What is the COSMOS acceptance rate?

The demand for admission to COSMOS is strong and has been since its inception. For example, of 4,833 completed applications for summer 2019, 1,060 (22%) were admitted, and 340 (7%) were wait-listed.

What is Cass ID?

What is a CASSID? This is your California student identification number. Please ask your school registrar or counselor if you don't know this number.

How competitive is the cosmos program?

Selection is competitive but if you don't apply, you'll never know! The program will serve around 200-225 students in multiple different STEM subject areas (clusters). Some clusters have prerequisites to ensure success in the program. UCI faculty teaching for COSMOS will review all applications.

Does cosmos come back every year?

Nearly all cosmos are annuals meaning they do not come back every year. In order to have blooms every year, you will need to resow the seeds the following spring. The only exception to this rule is chocolate cosmos, cosmos atrosanguineus, which is grown like a dahlia from a tuber and is a perennial.

A: COSMOS is a widely recognized academic enrichment program that does not grant academic credit. Students applying to the University of California can list COSMOS under "Special Program Participation" on their UC application.
