What is the parent portal and how does it work?

The Parent Portal allows parents of children making an in-year school application to do so via an online interface. The application allows a user to create an account, add their children to the account, and create one or more school preferences for that child.

How do I create an account on the parent portal?

To begin using the Parent Portal, create an account using the 'Sign In or Create Account' link which can be found on the upper left side of this page. If you would like help creating or using your account, please download our guidance on the Parent Portal (PDF, 556 KB).

How can I get access to personal data held by Croydon Council?

Under the General Data Protection Regulation, you have the right to make a formal request to the Council for access to personal data held about you or your child. Croydon Council has a duty under the Children’s Act 2004 to work with partners to provide and improve services to children and young people in the area.

What are some activities that students participate in?

Over the course of the year, students participate in a wide variety of activities, including field trips, public service, social activism, lunch-time activities like chess and knitting clubs, or our cross country or MathCounts teams.

What grade is Crowden School?

The Crowden School is a 3rd through 8th grade private school with chamber music at its heart. Since 1983, Crowden’s ensemble-based curriculum has instilled in our students the collaborative, creative, and critical-thinking skills to succeed in life.

What are the extracurricular activities that Crowden students do?

Crowden students enjoy a rich variety of extracurricular activities outside of music, including sports, dance, theater, scouting, and others.

What do students learn from playing music together?

Playing music together in ensembles, students learn skills such as focused listening, practice, and perseverance, and an empathetic group dynamic.

There is nothing like spending time on our campus and seeing our students actively engaged with learning. Please fill out the form below and we will contact you to schedule your tour. Tours are given Tuesdays 9:15 to 10:45am, Thursdays 10:15 to 11:45am, or by appointment.

Student for a Day

Once we receive your application, we will contact you to schedule a day visit for your child. This is an opportunity for your child to fully experience a day in the life of the Crowden School. We assign a buddy to the visiting child, and include the visitor in all activities.

Submit Teacher Recommendations

Fill out the top portion of the Teacher Recommendation Form and ask your child's current classroom teacher to complete and return directly to The Crowden School.

Send Transcripts

Submit the Transcript Release Form to your child’s current school to release progress reports from the past two years. You may also include your own copies of progress reports with the application

What happens if you give $100 to Crowden?

When you give $100 or more, you automatically join Crowden's membership program, which provides specialized benefits for different levels of annual support!

What is Crowden School?

A coeducational day school for grades three to eight, the Crowden School provides a transformative education with chamber music at its core. Crowden’s donors sustain this program by making up the difference between tuition income and the actual cost of educating each child. Donors also support financial aid, which is offered to over half of Crowden School students.

Can you double your gift to Crowden?

Many employers offer a Matching Gifts Program. This is a tremendous benefit that can double or even triple your gift to Crowden! Please check with your Human Resources Department for details.

Is Crowden College open to the public?

Crowden offers a diverse slate of classes, camps, and workshops that are open to the general public. This includes private lessons, group classes, chamber ensembles, and the unique John Adams Young Composers Program.

What is The Crowden School's educational philosophy?

We believe that the active engagement in making music, and the fun that children have in doing it, fosters a joy in learning that lasts a lifetime.

Is The Crowden School only for children who want to become musicians?

No! The Crowden School prepares its students to excel in all areas after they graduate.

What if my child has never played an instrument?

That’s OK! We welcome beginners on string instruments in the third, fourth, and fifth grades. At the audition, we value aptitude and enthusiasm for music as much as experience. These traits can be demonstrated by playing any musical instrument or by singing.

What are the entrance requirements?

Prospective students are expected to demonstrate academic and musical proficiency at the appropriate level for their grade.

What is the tuition, and do you offer financial aid?

The Crowden School offers a need-based Financial Aid program, and qualified students are strongly encouraged to apply regardless of their ability to pay. 51% of Crowden School students receive need-based aid!

What is the parent volunteer requirement?

The Crowden community is vibrant and dynamic, and parents have many opportunities to get involved and build connections. The Crowden School requires the following number of hours for parent participation:

Which high schools do Crowden graduates attend?

Crowden prepares its students to succeed in a variety of school environments. Most Crowden students are accepted into their first choice high school. Throughout the eighth-grade year, we help students get ready for high school through our High School Prep Course.
