Deeply influenced by the ideals of Blessed Edmund Ignatius Rice, the founder of the Christian Brothers, we aim :

Liturgy

Christian Brothers’ College is a Catholic centred school built on the traditions of the founder of the Christian Brothers, Edmund Rice. Each term Mass is celebrated throughout the College and Feast Days are honoured. Class Masses are held periodically on a more intimate level.

Sports

Ten sports disciplines are offered to the boys, and these are: Cricket, Swimming, Tennis, Squash, Athletics, Soccer, Rugby, Hockey, Golf and Cross-country. Inter-House matches, as well as Inter-School matches, are played.

Cultural Activities

Boys can choose from the following cultural activities: Marimbas, Pipe Band, Chess, Public Speaking, Enviro Club, Brainiacs, Debating and Computers. We participate in Inter-House and Inter-School events in these cultural activities. All boys are expected to participate in at least one sport and one cultural activity each term.

Inclusive Leadership

An inclusive leadership structure for the Year 7 learners ensures that leadership and independence skills are nurtured within the secure environment of the school. The Leadership Structure includes portfolios in House and Class Leadership, Ethos, Terrain, Security and Media/ Communication, and the boys rotate through the portfolios during the year.

Our Primary School

The Junior Primary School enters boys aged 4 in Year 000 and follows through to boys in Year 3. Bright, interactive classrooms and busy days characterise the Primary School. Class sizes vary with maximum numbers of 15 in Year 000, 20 in Year 00 and 25 in the other classes.

The Right Foundation

The pre-grade section has its own playground where these young boys are given every opportunity to develop socially and physically in a safe environment. Primary school boys enjoy the freedom of their section of the big field.

Extra Murals

Extra mural activities comprising both sport and cultural activities are offered to Year 1 – 3 boys on a seasonal basis. These include art, life skills, cricket, ball skills, soccer, rugby, swimming, tennis and athletics.

Curriculum & Liturgy

Year 1 – 3 boys are exposed to the main learning areas: namely English, Mathematics, Afrikaans and Life Skills. Specialist teachers are employed for Music, Computers, Library, Physical Education, and Art. Each grade also attends design and technology lessons for one term a year.

Physical Activity & Support

An effective in-house team comprising a Remedial, Occupational and Speech Therapist are available during school hours to provide further support for those requiring academic assistance. Our experienced pastoral team is well equipped to sensitively deal with the boys’ spiritual and emotional needs.
