SCHOOL YEAR 2022

We are very excited to begin running our overnight school programs again! The health and safety of our participants, staff, and the greater community continues to be Cal-Wood’s top priority. Our protocols are updated to ensure compliance with all Boulder County Public Health and Colorado State Childcare Licensing guidelines.

THE CAL-WOOD FIRE

The Cal-Wood Fire burned half of our 1,200 acre beautiful mountain top in October 2020. We have begun the restoration, a 5-10 year process and will cost millions of dollars, and during this process, we hope to transform Cal-Wood into an outdoor research and education center for fire ecology, restoration, and mitigation.

VOLUNTEER

We know that restoration and recovery will be a long road with soil and erosion control, reseeding grasses, replanting trees, and rebuilding our trails and bridges.

OVERVIEW OF CAMP ACTIVITIES

Each week there will be one campout night. Campers are with their cabin groups together in one of several beautiful outdoor campsites at Cal-Wood. During these campouts, we introduce low-impact camping techniques, share the “camp duties,” share stories around the campfire, and together enjoy the natural world at night.

KEEPING IN TOUCH

Your Whereabouts: It is important for us to know where you are located during your child’s stay at Cal-Wood. If at any time you will be at an address or phone number different from what you submitted during registration, please let us know by calling the camp phone at (303) 449-0603 ext. 1 or emailing jared@calwood.org .

POLICIES & PROCEDURES

Please read the following material CAREFULLY. Share this with your child so that he or she also understands our policies and is more prepared for their camp experience.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

Health and Safety: Our top priority is to maintain the health and safety of each camper. Our staff have certifications in Wilderness First Aid and CPR. Our Camp Nurse ensures the highest possible care, overseeing the overall care of your child. First aid kits are carried at all times by staff. Emergency Services can be on site within 20 minutes.

HOMESICKNESS

Cal-Wood prides itself on how well we handle homesickness or “missing home”. The staff receive specialty training in separation anxiety and homesickness. Homesickness is occurring more and more in children attending camp and your help and preparation makes a huge difference.
